The PH advantage

We help organizations gain competitive advantage by building capability and solving problems in engineering and project management.

Whether market-wide or in individual transactions, we can make it better.

CAPABILITIES

Making OTs and MTA work for you

Having trouble with profitability in the OT and MTA government environment?  Hammered by post-award changes  that become budget busters?  We can help!

Our process focuses on the essentials of business in the OT world:  The foundation is what we call RAD-B–Requirements, Architecture, Design, and Baselines. We can show your team how to build each of these into a solid foundation stone for a profitable project, and how to use them as a basis for negotiation with the customer to resource the inevitable changes.

mODEL-BASED SYSTEMS ENGINEERING

We were MBSE before MBSE was cool!  Our systems engineers have been working in model-based environments since 2010, and have competence in SysML (especially using Cameo), BPMN, and UAF.

DIGITAL ENGINEERING

Integrating engineering tools starts with integrating processes, and integrating processes starts with integrating people.  Our long experience in building teams and processes includes team of up to 400, in the most demanding operational environments.

sYSTEMS ENGINEERING

We understand that systems engineering is far more than just modeling–it’s full-spectrum engineering, and technical leadership across the full range of process areas your team works in.  With experience across the range of lifecycle activities, we can make it better in specific pain points, or for the whole lifecycle process.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT

Great engineering doesn’t stand on its own.  At PH, we fully understand the need for synchronizing engineering and project management.  We view Project Management through the lens of overall Project Integration, examining and achieving project success as the integrated application of the other PM Professional (PMP) Knowledge Areas and integrating engineering and support at selected points in each area.

STRATEGIC PLANNING

We help corporate planners consider strategy as an iterative build of—

  • Ends (the long-term objectives the company desires to achieve),
  • Ways (methods or actions to achieve the objectives) and
  • Means (the required resources such as skilled people, finances, tools, and infrastructure)

All in the context of the business environment and the company competition:  As is often said in the military, “the adversary always gets a vote”—so planning to compete is critical.

building capability

First and foremost, we understand that systems engineering is far more than just modeling–it’s full-spectrum engineering, and technical leadership across the full range of process areas your team works in.

We build MBSE and digital engineering (DE) capability by focusing our work through a custom-tailored version of the ISO/IIEC/IEEE 15288 processes and process areas. We execute this tailoring by—

(1) assessing the company engineering mission requirements through the lens of the processes, and

(2) comparing them to existing capabilities to identify the gaps. These gaps may be in individual processes or process areas, or may reflect a lack of an overall project engineering approach.

We then assess current capabilities in terms of people and processes:

(1) are the processes effective in executing the needed capabilities?

(2) are there disconnects among processes executed by different teams, such as SE and Software, or Software and CM?

(3) are the people educated and trained to do what the company needs?

Then, we build and implement a structured program to resolve the gaps. While we prefer to work alongside the customer in implementation, we can work anywhere along the spectrum from stand-alone implementation to handover to the customer for implementing the solution.

Solving problems

With more than 40 years’ leadership experience of technical teams large and small, and  30 years of systems engineering experience, we’ve seen and conquered problems in areas as diverse as–

  • Team building, team process, and functional improvement.
  • Organizational strategy.
  • Requirements engineering.
  • Architecture and design.
  • Implementation and integration.
  • Verification and validation.
  • Cyber resiliency.

delivering products

We deliver required MBSE or DE products by analyzing the need using a disciplined requirements-engineering process, and developing specific products to meet the need.

We understand that systems engineering is far more than just modeling–it’s full-spectrum engineering across the full range of process areas your team works in.

Analyzing the need: We analyze the need through an analysis of Business and Mission Requirements and Stakeholder Requirements (the overall project objective), leading to the requirements for and specifications of individual products such as a Systems Engineering Management Plan (SEMP) in a manner analogous to the development of System Requirements.

Developing products: We build our products as engineering models in SysML or BPMN, and output documents or other artifacts as required.
